The Board of Education    

Spring Vista Conference | Trustees attended the spring VISTA conference in Victoria, which provided a valuable team-building opportunity.

BCSTA | Trustees will be attending the BCSTA AGM April 24-26. Boards of Education across the province will be considering a number of at the AGM.


District Updates

Indigenous Education Council | The District is working with the W?SÁNE? School Board on a draft Terms of Reference for the Indigenous Education Council. The District will be meeting with local rights holders on April 17 at Quw’utsun Heritage Centre to discuss possibilities. 

Strategic Direction | The Superintendent shared an overview of the work taking place across the District including Deeper Learning initiatives, a visit to SEEC (Saturna Ecological Education Centre), Grade 6/7 Science Fair and the process for addressing concerns. Staffing and Projected Enrolment | Staffing process for the 25/26 school year is currently underway. The district is looking at a decline in enrolment due primarily to a larger graduating class and a smaller intake of Kindergarten students.

GISS Student Council | Gulf Islands Secondary School Student Council members presented on the work they are currently undertaking. They presented information taken from their school wide interviews and shared feedback from a broad cross-section of students.


Finances and Facilities

Monthly Financial Report | The monthly operating expense report reveals that expenses are within 0.04% of the amended budget. Additionally, the Board approved the 2025/26.

Capital Plan Bylaw | Projects include interior upgrades at SSE and Saturna Elementary, electrical upgrades at Pender and Galiano, kitchen upgrades at GISS and Pender, and accessible playground equipment at SSE.

Water Taxi Contract Extension | The current water taxi service contract with Gulf Island Water Taxi has been extended for the next two school years.
