Board Meeting Highlights
Summary of the Public Board Meeting, held June 12, 2024
Delegation: Janine Fernandes-Hayden, Executive Director – The Circle Education
works to prevent violence, bullying, discrimination, assault, and abuse by promoting healthy relationships and addressing social issues through educational programs targeting youth, focusing on social-emotional skills for healthy self and interpersonal relationships. In the 2023/2024 school year, the Circle engaged 1,246 students in the district.
Board Meetings and Schedule: The 2024/2025 Board Meetings Schedule was adopted. Regular meetings will be held at the school board office on Salt Spring Island, live-streamed for accessibility, and open to the public with a question period at the end. The public is encouraged to subscribe to the district calendar and download the 香港六合彩 app (/) to receive meeting notifications.
Financial Reports, Budget and Capital Plans:
- The monthly operating expense report summary for May indicates expenses are currently within 1.7% of the 2023/2024 amended annual budget.
- The 2024/25 Annual Budget Bylaw for $31,072,692 received 3 readings and was approved. The approved budget will be posted on the district website.
- The 2025/2026 5-year capital plan major submission was approved. The plan prioritizes seismic upgrades for Galiano, Salt Spring Elementary, Fernwood, and Mayne Island Schools.
Carbon Neutral Report: The district has submitted its annual Climate Change Accountability Report, which will be available on the .
Strategic Plan: The Strategic Plan Feedback form is open until June 23, 2024.
School Fees: year were received, and the board approved the International Student Program Fees 2025/2026.
Requests to Serve: The Board approved Mayne Island Lions Club’s requests to serve alcohol on school grounds in accordance with policy 3100 at their Dinner/Dance on November 16, 2024, at Mayne Island School.

Policy Committee Report:
- The following policies were adopted and will be available on the District website: 2.40 Addressing Concerns and Complaints, 2.60 Volunteers.
- The following policies were repealed: Policy/ Procedure 133 Addressing Concerns, and Form 133-1, Policy/Procedure 140 Relationships, Policy/Procedure 131 Personal Information and Privacy, Procedure 130 Access to Information, Policy/Procedure 510 Selection and Challenge of Learning Resources and Form 510-1.
As the Board continues renovating its policy manual, it welcomes feedback on draft policies, which will be posted on the Draft Policies for Circulation page of the District’s website.
